Fifth Annual Parish/School Vigil Saturday, September 6, 2008
Keeping a silent vigil is an opportunity to be present to God for a set period of time dedicated to a particular purpose, in this case the upcoming programmatic year of our church/school community. Participants commit to be in the church for an hour or two (or more!) dedicating their participation as channel through which God’s grace may flow. Rooted in Jesus’ request that his friends stay here and keep watch with me during those fateful hours in the garden after the Last Supper, vigils are opportunities to tap into the strengthening grace prayerful watchfulness promises. What do people do during a silent vigil? Although there is no prescribed agenda other than to be silent and present, tried and true practices are often helpful. So many materials and instructions will be available. Letting the Spirit guide is probably the best advice. Prepared by members of the Church’s Adult Christian Formation Committee and the School’s Spiritual Development Committee, vigil plans have oversight from parish and school clergy as well. It will be held in the Church beginning at 12:01 AM and ending at 11:59 PM on Saturday, September 6th, 2008. Our hope is to have several people present each hour during that 24 hour period. Please consider participating in this sacred tradition by contacting Cindy Simpson at 301 762-2191, x13, or email her at csimpson@cesstaff , or Fran Palmer-Hill at palmer-hill@medimmune.com, or Jack Gregory at jackgregorydc@yahoo.com, or Stephen Renfroe at aberfelde@aol.com.
