FISH/HELP - Every Sunday we collect food supplies to help feed the hungry in our town. Parish volunteers deliver these cans and boxes to the Rockville FISH distribution center. Other FISH volunteers sort incoming supplies, make up delivery packages, and deliver them to needy families. Everyone can contribute to this work by bringing food contributions through out the year. There is a collection area in the North Narthex.

Community Ministries of Rockville pools the resources of many of Rockville's churches to serve the greater community need. Two of our members serve on the Community Ministries Board. Direct support projects include Youth Group support of Sofia House and Chase Partnership Shelter. Sophia House is a short-term transitional shelter. We prepare and bring in meals to the women of Sophia House on the last day of each month that has 31 days. We hold a paper drive through the month of December to supply the Chase Partnership Men's Shelter with one month's worth of paper goods.
Episcopal Relief and Development Fund (ERDF) is a channel for our response to human needs worldwide. The Fund is a major response by the Episcopal Church to God's call to serve Christ in all persons, to love our neighbors, and to respect the dignity of every human being. It raises, receives, and uses funds for the relief of human suffering. The Fund provides emergency relief in times of disaster; it assists in the rehabilitation of lives, property, and organizations; and it joins in partnership with those who identify and address the root causes of suffering. Contributions can be made through our parish by writing a check to Christ Church and designating it for ERDF.
Diocesan Hunger Fund
was founded to help in the "provision of food
for hungry people" in the Diocese of Washington. The Hunger Fund depends
solely on money donated directly to the Fund. In the Fall, our members,
especially our youth, help raise funds by participating in the Region 4 Annual
Walk for the Hungry.
Loaves and Fishes -
For 35 years, anyone in need of a hot lunch
on weekends or holidays when many government programs are not operating, has
been welcomed to a wholesome meal in a safe environment at St. Stephen's.
The meals are served both on Saturday and Sunday, with 300 or more diners
common. We help prepare the Sunday meal on the third Sunday of each month.
Volunteers carpool from the Murdock Room at about 10:15 am and are usually back
at the parish by about 1:30 pm.
Samaritan Ministry - This year we
worked with
Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington and
its sister organization Transitional Housing Corporation to help furnish a newly
rehabilitated apartment building housing 13 previously homeless families on
Georgia Avenue in the District. The Partner Arms program addresses the
specialized needs of each family through a structured program of services while
providing safe, affordable housing for up to 2 years.
